A hospice registered nurse (RN) works with patients and families facing terminal illness. They work as part of an interdisciplinary team that creates and implements a care plan. They are responsible for the coordination, documentation, and communication of care with the patient and their family, as well as the physician and hospice team.
Aside from participating in the care of the patient, they may also need to attend meetings, workshops, in-services, and reviews as dictated by their agency or hospital. Hospice registered nurses may work a variety of hours, including during weekends and evenings; they may work or be on call during holidays.
Hospice registered nurses are often required to travel to their patients and perform their duties in the patient’s home; because of this, they must have their own transportation to get to and from appointments. Source
